DIY

Lately we have been digging these simple chevron nails from Refinery 29. The black and nude manicure is exactly what we look for in nail art: classic, easy and chic. And the sharp lines are actually surprisingly easy to create – no tape or stickers required! Check it out below and see more on Refinery29.com.

Directions:

  • Paint nude polish in a triangle on the bottom of your nail – don’t worry if its messy!
  • Use a thin black brush to make criss-cross lines over your nail, then fill in the rest with black.

Just another To Die For DIY, inspired by Spring trends of WhoWhatWear. It is all about details with this fun DIY created by Erica Domesek of PS. I Made This. The girlish embellishments and scalloped edges of this eyelet collar not only give you an on-trend look but a little charm too.

Materials:

  • Fabric
  • Pattern
  • Scissors
  • Velcro

Directions:

  • Print out the P.S. I Made This pattern or make your own. (Note: If you do not use the pattern, the collar should be approximately 4.5 inches wide and have a diameter of 4.25 inches.)
  • Lay fabric out on a flat surface. Place the P.S. I Made This pattern on top of the fabric and trace the shape of the collar.
  • Use scissors to cut out the collar and create a scalloped edge.
  • Attach a small piece of Velcro as a closure. Style with high-neck blouses or dresses.

NYFW was incredible, but now we are ready for a little relaxation starting with this Chamomile Oatmeal Face Mask by Leah of Freutcake. We love Leah’s cute ideas and fun recipes, and this face mask is exactly what the doctor ordered after the stress of NYFW.

Incredients:

  • chamomile tea
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 Tbsp honey
  • 2 Tbsp white sugar

Directions:

  • Combine the oats, baking soda and honey, and then add 2 Tbsp of the tea.
  • Set aside for 5 minutes, then add more tea if it is too dry.
  • Mix in the sugar, then apply the mask to your face and let it sit for 5 minutes.

We have loved all the runway looks and hairstyles from NYFW, but there is something to be said about the classic ponytail. It is a style that is simple yet chic. Thanks to Real Simple, you can learn how to perfect the ponytail whether you have short or long hair – it is a style for all! Recreate our top 3 picks below.

Short Hair:

  • Blow-dry hair straight and mist with a setting spray to give the style hold.
  • Slide in an elastic and work a dab of gel through the ends of the ponytail for texture.
  • For a bit more polish, blow out the loose bits in front and sweep them to the side. Spray in place.

Long Hair:

  • Tease the roots at the crown.
  • Loosely gather hair in an elastic just below one earlobe, tying it close to the scalp to give volume on top.
  • Camouflage the elastic with a strand of hair from the ponytail and secure it with a bobby pin.

Long Hair:

  • Part your hair horizontally with a comb from the top of one ear to the other (stick the upper portion in a clip).
  • Tie back the bottom half tightly in an elastic just below the crown.
  • Unclip the upper section and gather it into another elastic, right above the first one.
  • Wrapping a strand of hair from one of the tails around both elastics and securing with a bobby pin.

With all of our NYFW excitement, Valentine’s Day definitely snuck up on us this year. Thankfully we found a cute DIY on Chic Tags that will be a perfect last-minute favor for loved ones. These delicate doilies are sewn together and filled with little candies for a sweet twist on the classic Valentine. All you need are doilies, a needle, thread and some candy of your choice – we recommend red M&M’s or Red Hots! Just place two doilies together and sew them together along the edges, leaving a small gap. Use the gap to fill it with candy and then sew it up! You can decorate with stickers or a sweet note, or just leave them blank. You can find the whole DIY on Chic Tags.
