A girl can never go wrong with the classic ponytail. Whether you’re going to work, brunch or running errands, it’s the perfect daytime look. It’s always fun to give the classics a twist, and for inspiration we’re looking to Olivia Wilde who added a banded style to her chic ponytail. Check out the easy steps below to recreate Olivia’s new ‘do thanks to the style gurus of Style Noted.
Step #1: Towel dry hair to damp.
Step #2: (IF YOU HAVE BANGS) Separate bangs with a comb, and blowdry straight down for a sleek, smooth look.
Step #3: Blowdry the rest of your hair using your hands to create volume.
Step #4: Pull hair back and gather into a high ponytail.
Step #5: Secure with an elastic.
Step #6: To create the banded effect, place a clear elastic every 1 inch down the ponytail. Then gently pull out each section a bit to get more body.
As Minkettes, we truly are downtown romantics, which means our style is a mixture of girly and edgy elements. We wanted to create a DIY that perfectly captures the downtown romantic spirit, so we whipped up this floral studded headband. The pastel flowers are sweet and feminine, while the studs give it a little bit of edge. Follow the instructions below to create your own!
1. You’ll only be needing the tops of the spikes, so unscrew each spike.
2. Begin gluing the flowers and studs onto the headband. Place a dot of glue onto each flower or stud, and press it firmly onto the headband. Hold down for a few seconds while glue dries.
3. Continue covering the headband with flowers and spikes, alternating between the two. Make sure you allow time for each piece to dry.
4. When you’ve finished gluing on all of the flowers and studs, let your headband dry for 30 minutes, then you’re ready to show off your new hair accessory!
While stalking the street style snaps from Paris Couture Week, we immediately fell in love with this photo of fashion icon Miroslava Duma. Her bold pearl headpiece caught our eye, and we instantly knew we had to DIY it! With supplies from M&J Trimming, we replicated her intricate headpiece, and now we’re ready to rock this glamorous boho look. Follow the steps below to learn how to make it yourself!
1. Cut a piece of wire that will fit around your head, plus a few inches. Begin threading the pearls onto the wire.
2. Add enough pearls so they fit perfectly around the circumference of your head. Tie the ends of the wire together to create a circle. Snip off any excess wire. This will be the base of your headpiece.
3. Cut a piece of wire that will go from the middle of your forehead to the middle of the back of your head, plus a few inches. Thread 10-15 oval jewels onto the wire. Tie the ends onto opposite sides of the pearl circle, so it divides the pearl circle in half. This strand will be the top of the headpiece.
4. Create another strand of about 10-15 oval jewels. Tie one end onto one of the spots where the other oval jewels are attached to the pearls. This will be the front of the headpiece. Tie the other end onto the pearls, a few inches from the back of the headpiece. You may want to try the headpiece on to decide exactly where you want to tie the jewels. Repeat this step with another strand of jewels, so you have one on each side.
5. Create two more strands of pearls. These will be hanging down from the headpiece, so each one should be an inch or two longer than half of the pearl circle. Attach one end of each strand to the front of the headpiece, and one end to the back.
6. Thread a small piece of wire through the triangle stone, then tie it to the front of the headpiece. Position your amazing new headpiece on your head and you’re all set!
Jenni of I Spy DIYis definitely our go-t0-expert for DIY masterpieces. For the summer season, Jenni created an amazing vase DIY, because every woman loves and deserves flowers in her life, of course. It is such an easy concept using only Scotch painter’s tape and spray paint. Jenni chose silver to add a classic touch, but you can use any color pop you want – we think a neon pink or yellow would be perfect. Check out the video below for easy the step-by-step instructions and check out Jenni rocking her Rebecca Minkoff Becky Jacketand BF Clutch – always styling even when DIY’ing.
Considering our obsession with Instagram (and Pinterest, and Twitter, and anything social media related and techy, for that matter), it’s safe to say that we Minkettes are very attached to our iPhones. As close as we are to our mobile devices, it’s natural we want them to look as stylish as the rest of our accessories, so we decided to DIY our own iPhone case, keeping in mind the season’s uber-bright trends. With a touch of glue, some neon studs from M&J Trimming, and plenty of patience, we created this awesome geometric case that we’re kind of (very) obsessed with. Follow along below to add some studs-meets-skittles pizzazz to your case – happy DIY-ing!
1. Begin to arrange your studs on the case to figure out the design you want. You could do polka dots, or stripes, but we opted for a simple geometric pattern.
2. Using the E3000 glue, begin to individually glue down each stud. If you use the same pattern as us, start in the middle and work your way out. You may want to use a toothpick to apply glue to each stud.
3. Continue to apply the studs until you’ve covered the entire phone case. Let dry for half an hour then you’re ready to show off your new neon case!
