DIY Dream Catcher Earrings

Whimsical, bohemian, light and sexy – these DIY Dream Catcher Earrings embrace what summer is really about.  With unlimited options for colors, beads and feathers no two pairs are alike. They look great with a flowing maxi dress or use them to accessorize seductive leather shorts. Originally made by the Chippewa tribe, the feathers symbolize courage, wisdom and air while the web catches evil. Filter out the bad and breath in the good with this modern twist on an ancient art.

So let’s get started Minkettes…

Material Must-Haves:
Two 1” or 1.5” thin metal rings
6’ of Ultrasuede Lace 3 mm trim
(4’ for a 1” ring)
2’2” bead cord
Feathers
Variety of beads
2 jump rings
2 earring hooks
Scissors
Ruler
Leather and Suede Glue (optional)
Krazy Glue (optional)

Step 1: Cut the ultra suede lace trim in half. You should end up with two pieces 3’long for the large rings
or two pieces 2’ long for the small rings. Tightly wrap the ultra suede around the ring.
Be sure to tuck first end of thestring into the wrap!

Step 2: After you have covered the entire ring and one end is securely underneath the wrap,  use the loose end
to wrap an “X” around the ring and tuck that end under the “X” you just made. Pull it through.

Step 3: String a bead onto the ultra suede. Connect a jump ring to the end of an earring hook.

Step 4: Now lace the jump ring through the ultra suede and tie a knot. Make sure the knot is close enough to
the top of the bead to keep it in place and the earring hook is sitting on top of the knot to keep the earring straight.

Cut the excess ultra suede. If you want, you can further secure the knot by dabbing some Leather and Suede Glue on it.
Step 5: Cut 1.5’ of bead cord. Tie one end near the top of the ring.

Step 6: Loosely place the string over the ring. Move the string around to the back of the ring (forming a hole)
and pull the string back through the hole you just made.  Dreamcatchers use the same stitch throughout,
but it can be tricky.  Here are some expert instructions you should definitely follow!

Be patient with this step. Getting comfortable with the stitch may take awhile!

Step 7: After you finish the inside webbing, it’s time to put on feathers!
Take the remaining 8” of bead cord and fold it in half.

Step 8: Thread the middle of the folded cord through the ring. Position the cord where you want the feathers to dangle.
Step 9: Pull the loose ends through the rounded middle until tight.

Step 10: String two or three small beads onto the loose ends of the cord.
Tie a knot in the cord to secure the beads in place.

Step 11: Slide one or two feathers (or more if the bead holes are big enough) into the beads.  Position them so that
the beads cover the knot. Try to slide the feather as far up the three beads as possible. Dab some Krazy Glue
on the end of the feathers to ensure they stay inside the beads.
Now repeat for the second earring!

Voila! Your very own stunning pair of dream catcher earrings. How will you wear them?

Happy DIYing Minkettes!
