We all know having a puppy is the equivalent of having a small child, and for us New York-based Minkettes with closet-sized apartments and not enough time in the day as it is, having the responsibility of a “little one” at home is near impossible. But now you can have your cake and eat it too thanks to a New York graduate student named Katherine Long. Katherine runs a business aptly titled ‘Rent-A-Dog’ located in Central Park, and for 20 minutes and only $5, you can “rent” an adorable little guy named Ocho, a Collie Retriever. Aside from having the pure joy (and cool factor) of being a pseudo dog owner for 20 minutes, you are also helping to support a great cause: proceeds go towards the Ruff Start Rescue – the dog shelter that helped bring Ocho here to New York. So how do you know when your time is up? Katherine takes down your name and cell phone number and sends you a text message five minutes before your time is up. There you have it, Minkettes – a furry friend with no strings attached.
