Introducing “The Locals,” a regular guide to Minkettes’ hoods – starting with Tribeca in downtown New York City. Home to Amy Levin, a stylish New Yorker who also just so happens to be the founder, editor and creative director behind the college street style site, College Fashionista, she reveals Tribeca is much more than just the “Triangle Below Canal.” Sophisticated and relatively uncharted by the 20-something crowd, this modern neighborhood is a restaurant, shopping and entertainment mecca full of fun mysteries waiting to be uncovered. Read on to see what local spots Amy calls home.
“In the city that never sleeps, each area has its own characteristics. Perhaps what I love most about Tribeca (if I am forced to pick just one), is the true community feel of this neighborhood. With over eight million people in New York City, the shops, restaurants and people of Tribeca somehow make everything feel local. Here are a few of my favorite places in Tribeca.”
Pas de Deux - “My ultimate indulgence is a blow out, and this posh salon is my go-to for beachy waves. Stella rocks my world (and my hair) every time I drop in there.”
Smyth Tribeca – “Whenever I want to grab drinks with friends, the Toro Lounge located at the Smyth Tribeca is top of the list. The décor is modern meets vintage, which gives a comfortable and cozy feel.”
Kula Yoga - “After a busy day, there is nothing I enjoy more then zen-ing out in a yoga class. The hike up to Kula is several flights of stairs, which is a workout in its own (but so worth it). The ambience and vibe of the studio allows me to totally relax and get into my practice.”
Billy’s Bakery -”It’s nearly impossible for me to pass Franklin Street without a sweet treat from Billy’s. While their cupcakes are decadent their cakes are really carb worthy.”
Smith & Mills – “If you don’t look closely it’s easy to pass by this hidden gem. It’s my favorite neighborhood spot for a intimate dinner with friends. Definitely try their burrata!”
Kaffe 1668 -”For a green tea pick-me-up, this local coffee shop does just the trick. Lit up by dim candles, it also makes for a relaxing afternoon spot to catch up on my magazine reads.”
Ten Over Ten -”Besides offering polishes by high-end labels like Chanel and NARS, Ten Over Ten has their own line of colors. These exclusive shades make me feel like I am getting a one-of-a-kind manicure. Not to mention Jimena is the only person I trust my with eyebrows.”
